Today we celebrate the first Gold Record ever awarded!

On this day in 1958, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded Perry Como the first Gold Record (selling over a million copies) certification for his song, Catch a Falling Star.

This song was written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss. Como recorded it when he was a popular performer and television host. His Perry Como Show was aired in both Britain and America and was one of the most successful variety television shows. Como performed  Catch a Falling Star on his television show in January 1958 which propelled the song to Gold Record status.
